Upcoming 2026 Norwegian Elkhound Litters – In‑Depth Details on Lineage, Stewardship, and Restoration Architecture

Merv Carlson — June 8, 2026 Genetics & Lineage, Litters & Updates

As we move into the 2026 breeding season, two litters stand out as structurally aligned, historically significant, and architecturally important to the long-term restoration of the Norwegian Elkhound: the Riatta × Moki litter whelping in the United States, and the Teeko × Karia litter whelping here in Canada.

These two litters share deep ancestral symmetry. They descend from the same foundational architecture: the Takoda Norrland bloodline, the Tekla maternal dynasty, and the ancient northern working genetics carried through Luna, Leif, Tekla, and the Norrland males. They are parallel branches of the same restoration tree, converging again in 2026 to produce pups with the behavioral intelligence, pack stability, and working longevity that define the true Norwegian Elkhound.

Matched siblings, Teeko and Luna — incredible working foundation Elkhounds. Teeko now a mature male.

1. The Riatta × Moki Litter – USA Whelping, Texas & Montana Collaboration

Riatta – The Last Daughter of Luna and Leif

Riatta is the final female from Luna and Leif, a pairing that carried forward the Takoda Norrland bloodline with exceptional clarity. Luna’s mother is the full sibling to Teeko, which means Riatta and Teeko share a near-identical ancestral framework.

Her maternal line traces:

  • Luna → Tekla → Kamp
  • Full sibling connection to Teeko
  • Full sister to Ari, the male I held back as a stud

Riatta is one of the strongest females ever produced in the Norrland restoration track.

Moki – The Big Dark Norrland Male

Moki replaces Karu in this pairing and brings a powerful, old-style Norrland architecture.

Moki is:

  • A big, dark, old-style Norrland male, ~65 lbs
  • Son of Jaegar × GAEDA, carrying the → Jaegar male architecture
  • A third-generation Kamia male, with this litter becoming the fourth generation
  • Structurally correct, instinctively intelligent, and behaviorally stable

He arrived in Texas early this week after transport from Georgia, looking phenomenal. His condition, temperament, and physical presence are outstanding.

This upcoming litter is going to be one of the best in USA history—rivaling all Norwegian Elkhound litters. Only the Kamia litters are of this quality, and Moki × Riatta is an elite pairing.

A Multi‑State, Multi‑Country Stewardship Model

This litter is a coordinated effort involving:

  • Renee in Texas – Co‑breeder and whelping home
  • Amy – Transport and paternal management
  • Me – Architect of the restoration program

This multi-location stewardship ensures precision, safety, and continuity of care.

2. The Teeko × Karia Litter – Northern Alberta, A Direct Lineage Convergence

Teeko – The Norrland Male Carrying the Old Takoda Line

Teeko is one of the most important Norrland males in North America. His mother, Tekla, is also the grandmother of Riatta. His father, Takoda, is the cornerstone of the Norrland restoration.

Teeko represents:

  • The purest surviving Takoda Norrland architecture
  • Proven longevity, stability, and pack leadership
  • A direct genetic mirror to Riatta’s maternal side
Teeko a Norwegian Elkhound male with exceptional background

Karia – Daughter of Karu and Kalia, Carrier of the Finnish Working Line

With the correction applied, Karia’s lineage is now properly represented.

Karia is:

  • Daughter of Karu, the Finnish working-line male from the Kamu × Rittu bloodline
  • Daughter of Kalia, who traces back to Hachi
  • A female carrying the Finnish working architecture from Karu and the Hachi–Kalia maternal strength
  • Raised under MANE’s mentorship, giving her exceptional behavioral steadiness

She is one of the most structurally correct females in my program, with the mental steadiness and instinctive intelligence that comes from her maternal and paternal architecture.

Northern Alberta – The Pack‑Based Mating Environment

This mating occurs at my home base, where:

  • Mature males and females are present
  • Pack mentorship is active
  • Behavioral architecture is shaped daily

This is the environment where the Kamia working temperament is forged.

3. Why These Two Litters Belong Together in This In‑Depth Overview

Shared Ancestral Architecture

Both litters descend from:

  • Takoda (Norrland foundation)
  • Tekla (maternal dynasty)
  • Finnish working-line Karu through Karia
  • Old-style Norrland male architecture through Moki

The symmetry is remarkable:

  • Riatta’s mother is Teeko’s full sibling
  • Karia is Karu’s daughter
Karu, bringing diversity, excellence in genetics, behavioral stability and hunt capability beyond compare

Shared Behavioral Framework

These pups will share:

  • High pack intelligence
  • Strong handler focus
  • Exceptional working longevity
  • Stable, confident temperaments
  • Multi-generation mentorship influence

Shared Restoration Purpose

Both litters are part of the same long-term restoration plan:

  • Rebuilding the full-blood Norwegian Elkhound population
  • Preserving ancient pack-structure behavior
  • Maintaining genetic diversity without cosmetic breeding
  • Producing dogs capable of real work

4. Geographic Strength – A Continental Restoration Effort

  • Texas (USA) – Whelping home for Riatta’s litter
  • Northern Alberta (Canada) – Home of the Teeko × Karia pairing

This multi region collaboration is unprecedented in modern Elkhound breeding.

6. Closing Statement

These two litters are not simply upcoming breedings—they are the next chapter in my multi-decade restoration of the full-blood Norwegian Elkhound. They represent the convergence of the Norrland working line, the Tekla maternal dynasty, and the Finnish working architecture carried through Karu and the Hachi–Kalia maternal line and the Gaeda Dynasty.

Whether whelped in Texas or Alberta, these pups carry the same ancient architecture, the same behavioral intelligence, and the same purpose: to preserve and advance the true Norwegian Elkhound.
