Functional Structure — The Foundation of a Healthy Elkhound

True Elkhound structure is not cosmetic — it is functional. The original Scandinavian working dog required:

  • Strong, compact feet for snow and rock
  • Balanced angulation for endurance
  • Correct proportions for agility and stamina
  • Dense, weatherproof coat
  • Deep chest and strong lungs for long-range work

Modern show-ring exaggerations have distorted these traits in many lines. At Kamia, we preserve the original working structure, selecting for health, longevity, and functional movement.

A structurally correct Elkhound is healthier, more athletic, and more capable — exactly as the breed was intended.
