True Elkhound structure is not cosmetic — it is functional. The original Scandinavian working dog required:
- Strong, compact feet for snow and rock
- Balanced angulation for endurance
- Correct proportions for agility and stamina
- Dense, weatherproof coat
- Deep chest and strong lungs for long-range work
Modern show-ring exaggerations have distorted these traits in many lines. At Kamia, we preserve the original working structure, selecting for health, longevity, and functional movement.
A structurally correct Elkhound is healthier, more athletic, and more capable — exactly as the breed was intended.
