Letta has always been one of the great Kamia females\u2014steady, intuitive, deeply bonded, and carrying that old-world maternal intelligence that shows up in every aspect of her life. She raised multiple litters over the years, each one consistent, stable, and true to the ancient temperament. Hercules, her son from her final litter, was one of those males who stood out early. Even as a youngster he carried that calm, thoughtful male presence that only the old-line Norwegian Elkhound males possess. When the time came to place them, it was clear they were meant to stay together, and Greg and Kathy were the perfect match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their home is exactly what mature Elkhounds thrive in\u2014warm, multi\u2011generational, steady, and full of daily purpose. Kathy\u2019s mom is there often, and Greg\u2019s two sisters are part of the rhythm of the household. It\u2019s the kind of environment where the ancient therapy instinct of the Elkhound comes alive without anyone teaching it. Kathy describes it beautifully. When her mom arrives, both Letta and Hercules greet her as though she lives there. Herc approaches gently, offering his head and shoulders for her to pet as long as she wishes. Letta, with her hilarious confidence, will eventually nudge him aside and take over the role. She sits with Kathy\u2019s mom the entire visit, even during her B\u201112 injections, never leaving her side. Letta has always been an intelligent female, but this is a deeper level\u2014she recognizes aging, recognizes vulnerability, and responds with care. She has become a source of comfort, stability, and emotional support for Kathy\u2019s mom, and she does it naturally. This is the ancient Elkhound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hercules brings the other half of the equation. He is the faithful worker, the male who responds instantly when Kathy says \u201cit\u2019s time.\u201d He trains with enthusiasm, repeating the same technique over and over with joy. His walking is the same\u2014he would go all day. He is affectionate, loyal, and deeply bonded to Kathy. She writes that if she could only choose one\u2014male or female\u2014she would choose a male like Hercules. That is high praise, and it speaks to the old-line male temperament: steady, gentle, emotionally intelligent, and absolutely devoted. He loves children, and Kathy knows he will help a child someday, emotionally and mentally. She is right\u2014he has that gift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greg, recovering from knee replacement surgeries, has found in these dogs a source of motivation and companionship. As he heals, he looks forward to the cold weather when he can be outdoors more with them. They have been loyal, constant, and grounding for both Greg and Kathy. They watch your videos, follow the Kamia dogs, and remain connected to the lineage and the stewardship. And although they once considered a puppy, Kathy says it plainly\u2014there is no way they would ever trade Letta and Hercules. They were attached from the beginning. They hit the jackpot, and they know it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
