Kaleva has her new Norwegian Elkhound Puppies!

Kaleva has her new litter on the ground in Idaho. Tammy was up with her and she had them very fast, about 25 minutes apart, all doing terrific. Photo is only when they are hours old! Fantastic even pups, all nursing and she is a great Mama. Tammy has had her out, she is eating, all doing fabulous! This is so Awesome. These are Pretty Boy Leif babies. They are growing super fast and Kaleva is staying in shape

Eyes are open and they are moving around now. About 3 weeks old today and Chris and Tammy sent me some photos of these rascals. Check out that old world hunting boy! Wow!

These are some of the very best pups on the planet right now and they are growing and doing so good. Hats off to Tammy and Chris for such a fantastic job with them.

Kaleva when she was Getting Belly

Kaleva is a combination of the very best of the working and hunting champions from Finland. Her father is the world famous Karu, who Kamia Kennels imported as a pup. Her mother is the Beautiful Silver Nova, again an import by Kamia Kennels as and outcross female to our working lines.

We are extremely proud of Kaleva, she is one of the most unique and diverse bloodlines of Norwegian Elkhounds in North America and the world. The bloodline of Karu has never left the old country before him. The heritage of Silver Nova has been many, many generations in North America. The key to health and longevity, preservation of the breed and strength of the dogs overall is always genetic diversity.

Kaleva has recently been bred to none other than Pretty Boy Leif.

So we should be having a litter from this totally awesome pair in a couple months.

Leif has a line of champions a mile long in his background, as far back as I could look on either side, every pair was Champion this, champion that. Now, all of you know we don't show our dogs, but we feel we have as good a set of dogs as exists anywhere.

As many of you know, the combination of genetics in Pretty Boy Leif is one of the best in the entire Norwegian Elkhound lines. He is the perfect compliment to the Karu and Silver Nova daughter, this stunning Kaleva. Leif is shown to the left.

Most breeders work a lifetime to get a set of great dogs to build a program on. At Kamia Kennels we have some of the very best and when we were able to get the litter from Silver Nova and Karu we were overjoyed. This is years of work coming to fruition. Leif was already here, Teeko and other males waiting for Kaleva. Kaleva is one of those little pups on Silver Nova.

I have two daugthers from this litter of Silver Nova, we held back Kaleva as well as her sister Kessa. I'll have a page up soon on Kessa as well, just as stunning as her sister, no doubt about it. Silver Nova is content and is a terrific mother, those pups are 1 day old in the photo.

Leif loves the snow. He has fit in around here just perfectly. Here he is showing off to his new gal Tuva that he can plow through just as much snow as Jaegar and do it with a smile. Leif has proven to be absolutely consistent in his quality, no matter what female we mate him to.

Leif is currently in Montana with our Co-Breeders Linda and Darryl.

Pretty Boy Leif - Summer 2017

This photo of Leif is summer of 2017, early July. I had him out hiking with Kai and Tora and he is a machine right now. Fully muscled in this mountain lifestyle has worked well for Leif. He had such a great frame and with our tough conditions he has really filled out. We feed raw and that I believe also helped him out.

The depth of quality in this lineage on both sides is so evident when you see the siblings to Kaleva. We have literally photo after photo of great Norwegian Elkhounds from Silver Nova, Karu, not to mention Leif .Susan has a world class companion with her stunning Solveig. Solveig shows all the character traits of the very best of the breed. Pups just like Solveig are coming from her sister Kaleva. This is a very exciting time for the Norwegian Elkhound breed in North America.

The depth of integrity to good breeding practices is what leads to consisent flawless dogs litter after litter. The breeders here represented in the backgrounds of these stunning dogs are generation after generation. Many of the breeders we work with for foundation stock and outcross bloodlines are 25 to over 50 year breeding histories.

Silver Nova has produced incredible pups no matter which male she was placed with. This incredible big fella named Soren is a son of MANE and Silver Nova.

I received this update from Alex a while back and he is doing such an incredible job with Soren. Soren is a half brother to Kaleva, as MANE is the father of Soren.

He is a big boy, stout, strong extremely good with Alex and his family and he is a full instinct male Norwegian Elkhound of course.

Silver Nova is a tremendous outcross female as she allows the working full instinct males to place all instincts intact in her pups. Soren and Kaleva are both full instinct dogs, this is the key to an outcross female.

I had taken a great deal of time to study genetic backgrounds for this outcross blood of Silver Nova and it has been proven over and over to be superior when matched up with our full instinct old world males.
