To see the current litter of Aurella and Posso
Aurella and Posso - heritage and background
We have the first pups from our magnificent female Aurella who was mated to Posso. Posso was our Finnish import that came over with the mother of Aurella, Varella and the same trip as Karu. Satu and Mika traveled with those rascals from Finland.
Aurella - new litter of 8 puppies
Please contact us about our litters right away.
Varella - Our New Jämthund Female Varella Was Born In Finland
This news was so fantastic - our new little Jämthund Female is in that litter - her name is Varella
Ark needed a mate of course and we had been working with Satu, who by the way is incredible. She had arranged with her top breeder friends who have Champion Swedish Elkhounds to get a female for us. The little female was born a few years ago on March 5th in Finland, yes, same day as Karu who was born in Finland as well, how cool is that.
This female now allows us to continue our Jamthund program with Ark. He has been wanting me to hurry up and get him a female, I told him, patience Ark, Satu has to find you the very best. She has outdone herself. There is nothing like a Master Breeder like her to help me.
Varella today, a stunning big female Jamthund
Ella as we call her today, Satu shortened that name, haha, we are proud of her, she is stunning and fast, a true hunting female. Her heritage is full of the best and it came out in full colors in Ella.
I took this photo shortly before the Aurella litter was on the ground in Summer of 2023 and shortly after this I took her and Ark to meet up with Michael our co-breeder in Northern Alberta as they were going to care for them and whelp out the new Ark and Ella litter this coming fall of 2023.
This stunning female Swedish Elkhound is Varpu - mother of Varella
This is another astonishing Jamthund, she is a full instinct working Elkhound with impeccable traits. Varpu is a Finnish Moose Working Champion, and she is a Finnish Bear Working Champion. Go Figure Right!
I do believe I have said this before, if you are going to get a new pup, get a good one! I can't get any better than this. What a great thing this is. I am so grateful to the breeders in Finland, what a special thing they are doing. Aurella's Grandmother, Wow!
This big fella is none other than Huugo - father of Varella
Now I don't think I could have ever envisioned a better pair of Jamthunds coming together to create the female for Ark. These two are so perfect for that role.
Huugo is also a Double Champion - Finnish Moose Working Champion and Finnish Shape Champion. So that Ark, he is one lucky rascal.
Now this gesture by these breeders is extraordinary, no doubt about it. This is some seriously good genetics that are coming over here to assist us in establishing the Jämthunds.
Ark is a walking genetic masterpiece of Jamthund prowess and combine him now with Varella, can you believe what's coming in a few years. Oh Man! Easy to see now years later what this combination produced! Aurella is stunning!
So my friends, oh yea, these my friends these are Swedish Elkhound Champions!
Posso - Our New Jämthund Sire was in that litter of 11
This is a spectacular sight! 11 Baby Jämthunds - Oh man, how awesome!
What makes it even more so is the fact that our new Jamthund stud dog, Posso is in there. Citi is a great Mama, 11 pups, prolific! Good genetics for keeping a stud dog from. Citi is an extremely good hunting female. She is a big dark female and Posso as you all know has carried this great genetic forward.
Citi - Mother of our little Jamthund Male - Champion Moose Hunting Female
So this extremely fertile female and unbelievable mama has produced an incredible litter of Swedish Elkhounds.
What an astonishing Elkhound to have as the mother to our little Posso. Oh my goodness.
There is no better female to produce the sire for the amazing litters to come with all of Aina's offspring and decedants as we as Varella too than Citi, she is the ultimate. Varella is now bred to Ark, but Varella can be bred to Posso the next breeding, what a combination!
Posse - This is the big daddy sire to that litter of Citi - Moose Hunting Champion
After that incredible litter I had to name the new pup after this big rascal. This is two of Finlands best working Jamthunds, and without question two of the most prolific.
Exactly the match up for the females we have.
The really cool thing is that this young son of Posse that is coming to Canada can and did work with all of Aina's daughters and Aina herself and yes, you know it he has produced a wonderful litter now with the Granddaughter of Aina, Aurella.
The future of the Canadian and North American Jamthunds is very secure now. We have a wide range of combinations to work with thanks to the tireless work of Satu and the Incredible Breeders in Finland.
A HUGE THANK YOU to all the Finnish Breeders for the dedication to the breed, to the preservation of this magnificent dog and to helping us establish this program here.
We will do a good job with them, they will be hunting, they will be working and hiking and living as good a life as any, anywhere.
Speaking of Jämthunds... we will be forever grateful to Rico
Rico father of Ark - Grandfather to Aurella
We are so blessed to have the genetics of this big fella running in the Kamia Kennels program as one of the main founding lineages of the Jamthunds. He was a Satu pup and Beth and Russ have worked with us dilgently to begin this bloodline and genetic pool here in North America and we are honored to work with them. They are a key role in our co-breeder program and Aurella of course is the granddaughter of this phenomenal big fella.
Russ and Beth with all the Rico and Aina Pups
All the pups of Rico and Aina that were held back for breeding are in this photo with Russ and Beth. Haha, we had some fun trying to get this group all together. Aina was telling them all, get lined up, sit down nice, quite goofing off, haha. Rico he was like, relax, chill out, it's all good
Aila, Ria, Raven Svea, Xena, Ark and parents Aina and Rico.
What a great set of Jamthunds!
Rico's Grandmother the Famous Feija
Each of us in life strive to be as good as we can at our chosen area of life and profession and passion. Satu has an incredible gift for working, hunting and breeding some of the very best Jamthunds in the world. She is extrodinary at what she can get her excellent dogs to excel at, which is hunting of course.
This particular female is a legend in Scandinavia, especially in the Northern Finland district of Karelia where she has competed with the very best dogs in the world and stood out far and away above others.
This is a Finnish Bear Champion, Moose Champion and Show Champion and this incredible female with her excellent heritage runs in the background of our genetic pool in the Kamia Kennels females and males.
In establishing the genetic pool it's important to have as good of dogs as are currently possible to get for setting the future of the breed in North America and this is a powerful anchor of genetics to set our course.
There are many great Swedish Elkhounds in our program and the heritage of these great dogs leading back to females like Feija is the reason they are so spectacular!
I hold a great deal of respect for Satu and her dedication to this breed!
Feija
and Merv
One of the highlights of my breeding career and of course one of the top moments of my trip to Finland was to see the Famous Feija.
This spectacular Elkhound is a legend and it was a huge honor for me to spend time to see her, as well her daughter, Hile, mother of Rico, also got to see some little grandpups of Feija as Hile had a litter when I was there.
If I am not mistaken this female has probably won more competitions and hunting trials than almost any other female and her offspring have carried that forward. We are very proud to have brand new Jamthund pups on the ground now that carry this prolific and potent genetic!
Aina's Mother - Lisa - Finnish Bear Champion
This is Oskulan Lisa, mother to Aina with the litter Aina was from
Aina's mother is a beautiful dark female, Oskulan Lisa. Finnish
bear champion and excellent hunting dog. Aina has a tremendous
heritage of all great dogs in her ancestoral background with every
dog a champion. All working dogs and her heritage dates back
traceable to the very beginning of the Association.
We had asked Satu that if possible to find us the bear lineage as of
course we have more bears where I hike than Moose, and with the
outstanding combination of Oskulan Lisa and Aina's father Onnivaaran
Unksi we could not have found a better Swedish Elkhound Female!
Salopellon Tellu - Lisa's mother and Aina's Grandmother
Salopellon
Tellu, Finnish hunting Champion is the mother of Lisa.
You probably all now know why I have named the daughter of Aina and
Posso, Tellu.
We retained a daughter from the last litter of Aina to hold in the breeding program and I thought it would be fitting to name her after this magnificent female who has contributed to our genetic base of great Jamthunds here at Kamia Kennels.
The list of great females in the background of the little pups on
the ground in early September 2023 by Aurella and Posso is simply
amazing.
Grandma Aina - mother to Ark
Aurella's Grandmother the full tilt warrior Aina! What a perfect warrior to send across the ocean to found this genetic pool. No other female is so fearless, so full of herself and loving life than Aina. A powerful dominant female that has a natural instinctive ability to bond with the handler.
Her hunt capabilities and instinctive skills are always on display. Her very first litter of course is the one where Ark was the lone pup. How amazing was it that Ark was born alone, first Male Jamthund in Canada, and born a BobTail. Talk about amazing! So yes, the heritage behind those little rascals of Aurella and all the pups to come yet from this set of genetics is amazing.
