Aspen - Female Norwegian Elkhound - 4th Generation At Kamia Kennels
Aspen - Norwegian Elkhound Foundation Female
Aspen is an amazing Norwegian Elkhound. She is the daughter of Tika and Swix. We held back two sisters, Aspen and Cedar from the mating of Tika and Swix.
This particular mating of Swix and Tika was very important for us as a preservation breeder as we needed to preserve that old lineage of Tika and we had the opportunity, an incredible opportunity I might add to use Swix as the sire.
Swix is one of the very best working Norwegian Elkhound lineages out of Sweden. His heritage is legendary for the working of Bear and Moose. Paul Cooper worked with us to faciliate the use of Swix in this mating, I'll cover more details on Swix below. Suffice to say this particular female, Aspen and her sister Cedar are the only two breeding Norwegian Elkhound females in North America to carry that ancient bloodline of Tika and Swix.
Aspen Has Her New Litter of Puppies
Ten days ago Aspen decided to have her fabulous litter of 7 Norwegian Elkhound puppies over at Wendy and Dales. What an incredible set of pups she has.
She was bred recently to Karu and this litter is very exciting for us as this is the first time we have had the genetics of Swix, the father of Aspen combined with Karu.
These are the finest hunting bloodlines currently available and Aspen is our preservation lineage of Elite working Norwegian Elkhounds so it can not be expressed how great this is.
Hats off to Wendy and Dale for such incredible effort and work. You would not believe it, but Aurella was whelping at the same time, so Wendy is watching Aspen and Dale was in with Aurella, how incredible. Check out Aurellas Swedish Elkhound pups too!
Two of the Males from the litter at 10 Days
Aspen is an extremely good Norwegian Elkhound. She has all instincts intact of course and her confirmation and personality are exceptional. Wendy and Dale have raised her along with Cedar and the other two sisters, Sage and Willow who are Leif daughters. Wendy and Dale are extremely gifted with animals, especially dogs. They have done a wonderful job with Aspen, she is such a personable and easy going female.
This particular lineage of Tika and Swix is the first time that the genetic of Swix had ever left the old country and now of course this is the very first daughter of Swix to have a litter in North America.
We had planned for years to utilize the Swix genetic to provide an exceptional outcross to the bloodline of Tika and her back ground and now as you know we have matched that up with Karu, our Finnish Rock Star. So the pups coming are truly incredible. Wendy and Dale picking up Tika 2013

* Swix - Norwegian Elkhound Stud Dog from Sweden*
This is Swix with Kai, the sister to Tika. Swix is from a legendary hunting bloodline of Norwegian Elkhounds out of Sweden. Paul was instrumental in getting Swix over here to us so we could have this amazing bloodline as one of our outcross males for preservation.
It's individuals like Paul that assist the Norwegian Elkhound breed and we are indebted to him for working with us in the regard. Swix has a phenomenal background his ancestors are true hunting warriors.
5 Females shown below from the litter at 10 days
Grandpa Swix carries right close to the surface in his father who is a Nordic Champion. The Nordic Champions are those who excel and win hunting championships in at least three of the Scandinavian countries. Swix himself is a hunting fiend as well. We are all blessed to have this amazing litter and we are so pleased.
Five of the little females from this litter are shown, they are doing so great. Aspen has 7 pups, two males and 5 females. I have photos of the males above as well.
These are going to be so excellent, Wow!
What a great litter from Aspen and Karu!
Bram - Norwegian Elkhound Sire - Grandfather of Aspen
.
Bram: An outstanding male Norwegian Elkhound, Father of Tika, Grandfather to Sage, Willow, Aspen and Cedar.
Bram is first generation in Canada with his background all out of Norway, this is an extremely good Elkhound. We have been blessed to have his genetics in our program. Cathy and Blaine have raised an incredible male and keep Bram in top shape all the time.
Kjekk
- Norwegian Elkhound Male - One of Aspens ancestors a few
generations back
Aspen's ancestors a few generations back of course are a very capable and rugged set of dogs, all true hunting dogs, and many Champion hunting dogs. The big fella to the left is RM Kjekk, a Champion hunting Norwegian Male over in Norway. Her ancestors are true working dogs, they range, hike, hunt and protect. Yet they can win show after show as well. Kjekk is a perfect example of a working Norwegian Elkhound male in his element. RM Kjekk is a very unique hunting Champion as he is a "NORDIC CHAMPION". He has won a Championship in 3 out of 5 Scandinavian Countries. A remarkable achievement!
Tika - Norwegian Elkhound Female - Mother of Aspen
Its definitely not hard to see the genetics and traits carry forward strong and true in this ancient lineage. Tika has the pure old world stance, confirmation and capability as all her ancestors shown here with her.
She is an amazing representation of all the very best of Norwegian Elkhounds going back centuries. Genetics of this quality are so precise in transfer of style and looks but more importantly, the character and instinctive traits.
Instinctive traits are very important for us as a preservation breeder. Genetic transfer of these abilities in this line are what it is known for.
The famous Kjekk shown above her was a testament to this capability as well. His father is the legendary Mini G, who also was a "Nordic Champion". The true measure of great Norwegian Elkhounds has always been the ability to pass down all the old world traits.
This is evident in this line, generation after generation!
Tora - Grandmother of Aspen and Takoda Great Grandfather of Aspen
As far as phenomenal male Norwegian Elkhounds go, you would not come across a better speciman than Tora and her dad Takoda. I took this photo on Tora's 10th birthday, we had a great hike in the high country.
Tora was a total powerhouse female. She was a full instinct rich female and was infused with the handler focus from her famous father Takoda.
There is nothing like hiking remote
terrain with two full instinct rich genetically connected
Elkhound, nothing like it at all.
This is Tuk and his handler owner Gregg
We were extremely fortunate to have Tika mated to Swix for one litter. I will have details on Swix in this page but this big male is Tuk, one of the sons from that litter. Gregg and Tuk paddled in a Canoe from Yellowknife to Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean.
Gregg states he is the best companion ever. He has paddle hundreds and hundreds of miles with Tuk. What an amazing adventureous lifestyle Gregg and Tuk have. I'll try to get a complete page up for this amazing story between Gregg and Tuk. Tuk is a truly outstanding male. He is the full sibling brother to Aspen and Cedar, the two daughters Wendy and Dale held back from the litter of Tika and Swix.
This my friends, This is an Elkhound!
Below you will find a video of Swix and Paul when they came to visit! Swix is the father to Tuk, as well as Cedar and Aspen. What an incredible Norwegian Elkhound!
Below you will find a video of three of the pups from Aspen's sisters Willow and Sage. Both of these sisters were bred to Karu at the same time, I have them out in the mountains with 3 mature Elkhounds! These 3 pups are all Grandpups of Tika and Bram.
Below you will find a video of Tika I did quite a few years ago. She was in her prime at that time. Her half sisters Tekla and Tuva are in it and some of our other great dogs. Enjoy!
