Tika - Female Norwegian Elkhound

Tika - Female Norwegian Elkhound - 3rd Generation At Kamia Kennels

Tika Norwegian Elkhound FemaleTika - Norwegian Elkhound Foundation Female

Tika is an amazing Norwegian Elkhound. She has been one of the main foundation females to carry forward our ancient genetic lineage based upon her famous mother Tora and incredible father Bram.

Wendy and Dale have been co-breeders with us for over and Decade and Tika has been with them from the very start. She has proven to be the very best companion they could ask for and more.

The story of Tika will be outlined below as her daughters are now taking over for Tika as she has headed into retirement at the ranch with Dale and Wendy. She will oversee the new litters coming from her daughters, Sage, Willow, Aspen and Cedar.

Tika Norwegian Elkhound Foundation FemaleThis is Tora with her famous last litter which has the incredible Tika in it, as well, her sister Kai is also in there. Tika and Kai were the two we selected to carry this genetic forward. It was our main goal to have Tika move to the Creston location with Dale and Wendy so that we could begin the co-breeding and spread out the breeding/whelping load and expand the safety and security of this genetic by having it at two locations.

Tora was a legend in the North American Norwegian Elkhounds as she carried the highly sought after and elusive Norrland bloodine of her father Takoda. Kamia Kennels is a preservation breeder, one of the last remaining preservation breeders and this particular blood line known quite literally as the oldest was known to be presevered only here.

Tora was mated this final litter to the same male as all other litters, Bram, a stunning first generation in Canada male from the very best Norway hunting lineages. His ancestors I'll discuss in detail here as well.

Wendy and Dale come for TikaWendy and Dale picking up Tika  2013

It's was so fitting that the first pup we placed we selected for our Co-Breeders Wendy and Dale at our new location in BC. This image is from late summer in 2013 basically ten years before I am writing this page. The incredible journey with them has been so fulfilling. We have seen all the amazing pups that Tika has produced and all the beautiful Norwegian Elkhounds that even her daughters have already produced and placed to with caring homes.

This is just the beginning as Dale and Wendy have 4 incredible daughters of Tika and they are currently either bred, or will soon be. More on that in this feature.

*Sage, Willow and Tika Tika shown below with two of her daughters, Sage and Willow*

These are amazing old world Norwegian Elkhounds. Tika is shown here with her two stunning young daughters, Willow and Sage.

Tika was mated to Pretty Boy Leif on the first mating and we are so blessed to have this combination of genetics come together. The resulting Elkhounds that came from that were truly astounding. Sage and Willow have grown into magnficent young foundation females and are now carrying forward the genetics of Tika and Leif and the incredible heritage they have.

Leif Male Norwegian ElkhoundThe world famous Pretty Boy Leif, father to Willow and Sage

As most of you know, Pretty Boy Leif is one of the most famous show lineage Norwegian Elkhounds alive. He has been producing incredible Norwegian Elkhounds here at Kamia Kennels for a very long time. He is a prolific stud dog and when mated to our old world elite females the results are incredible.

Tika is a full instinct working female. The pups of course were all full instinct working Norwegian Elkhounds. This is a very unique and diverse bloodline.  We held back those two young females Sage and Willow as the quality was undeniable.

By combining Leif with Tika we had the best of all the North America genetics merging with all the best old world working genetics. The diversity was incredible, the strength and health aspects was the ultimate. Both Tika and Leif are prolific so the further lineage was assured to succeed, and boy did it ever.

*Grandma Mia and litter Tora was from, are shown below*

Kai and Mia Female Norwegian ElkhoundsThis is an old photo of the litter of ten that Mia had which we selected Tora from. We knew at that time the prolific nature of Mia and with this litter of incredible females we knew we had to keep one.

Tora was selected and she created a legacy based on this heritage and background of this old coastal lineage Norwegian Elkhound Mia.

Pretty Boy Leif is the perfect compliment to this genetic combining this great easy keeper ability to thrive and excel.

I had spent years hiking and working with Mia, and of course Tora. I knew the reliability, the nature, the genetic instinctive skill. Tika carries all of this ability forward into her offspring. Her daughters carry it forward as well, I have worked with their pups.

  Bram, Norwegian Elkhound Male

.

Bram: An outstanding male Norwegian Elkhound, Father of Tika, Grandfather to Sage, Willow, Aspen and Cedar.

Bram is first generation in Canada with his background all out of Norway, this is an extremely good Elkhound. We have been blessed to have his genetics in our program. Cathy and Blaine have raised an incredible male and keep Bram in top shape all the time.

Kjekk Norwegian Elkhound Male NorwayKjekk - Norwegian Elkhound Male - One of Rita's ancestors a few generations back

Tika's ancestors a few generations back of course are a very capable and rugged set of dogs, all true hunting dogs, and many Champion hunting dogs. The big fella to the left is RM Kjekk, a Champion hunting Norwegian Male over in Norway. Her ancestors are true working dogs, they range, hike, hunt and protect. Yet they can win show after show as well. Kjekk is a perfect example of a working Norwegian Elkhound male in his element. RM Kjekk is a very unique hunting Champion as he is a "NORDIC CHAMPION". He has won a Championship in 3 out of 5 Scandinavian Countries. A remarkable achievement!

Tika Norwegian ElkhoundIts definitely not hard to see the genetics and traits carry forward strong and true in this ancient lineage. Tika has the pure old world stance, confirmation and capability as all her ancestors shown here with her.

She is an amazing representation of all the very best of Norwegian Elkhounds going back centuries. Genetics of this quality are so precise in transfer of style and looks but more importantly, the character and instinctive traits.

Instinctive traits are very important for us as a preservation breeder. Genetic transfer of these abilities in this line are what it is known for.

The famous Kjekk shown above her was a testament to this capability as well. His father is the legendary Mini G, who also was a "Nordic Champion". The true measure of great Norwegian Elkhounds has always been the ability to pass down all the old world traits.

This is evident in this line, generation after generation!

Koda - Male Norwegian Elkhound Son of Tika and Leif

Koda - Male Norwegian Elkhound Son of TikaAs far as phenomenal male Norwegian Elkhounds go, you would not come across a better speciman than Koda. This handsome male has one of the best homes and lifestyles of any Elkhound. Brian and Marcia give him a ton of excercise, love and care and he is living large.

What an exceptional Norwegian Elkhound and we are so proud of these sons of Tika and Leif. Koda is a full sibling brother to Sage and Willow, he was in that same litter.

I had the absolute honor to train Koda through our Desna program and Wow, did he ever come of that adventure showing me that instincts run true and deep to this lineage.

What an amazing male, hats off to Brian and Marcia for such a great life this big fella has.

Timber and Echo - Male Norwegian Elkhounds - Brothers to Sage and Willow and Koda - Sons of Tika

Echo and Timber Norwegian Elkhound BrothersI will illustrate two other brothers of Sage and Willow. Sons of Tika and Pretty Boy Leif. These are two more of the boys that were in that famous litter Tika had.

RBob and Michelle have these two Rock Stars down with them and they have a wonderful life. These boys are some of the greatest you can come across. The personality, the nature, the ability to focus and work is amazing. These two brothers have lived together the entire time. I am so grateful to Bob and Michelle for the wonderful life they give these boys.

We are very pro two Elkhound families. I place a great deal of siblings, whether its two brothers, or a sister brother or two sisters we are fond of it. Our deep pack instinct lineage is geared to living with a sibling or a relation, or another Elkhound. They thrive and do very well as pairs.

This pair of brothers is a perfect example of how this instinctive skill comes through Tika direct into her offspring.

It's a powerful statement to his character and his desire as well to preserve and keep the very best of the Norwegian Elkhounds going by contributing to this gene pool we have.

As you can see, Rittu has passed down to Rita through Karu and Kai all the ancient genetic material that makes this breed so profound and ancient.

This is Tor - Son of Pretty Boy Leif and Tika

Tor - Son of Tika and LeifThis is an amazing male Norwegian Elkhound son of Tika and Leif. Shannon and Mike have Tor up on the North BC coast by Stewart. A perfect place for this big rascal. They also have a young sister with him now as well.

As you can see this Tika genetic is extremely strong and quality runs very deep. Team that up with Leif and Wow, what an amazing set of Norwegian Elkhound males show up.

These big boys are well suited to family life, hiking, camping and of course hunting. Snow dogs all of them as you can see.

As a breeder it's the greatest thing ever to get photo after photo with updates about all the great pups that have came from this lineage.

You would be hard pressed to go anywhere in the world and find a set of males like those that Tika produces, they are all amazing. Pretty Boy Leif is the father of Tor, you can find out about Leif at this link.

Gregg and Tuk - Tuk is son of Tika and SwixThis is Tuk and his handler owner Gregg

We were extremely fortunate to have Tika mated to Swix for one litter. I will have details on Swix in this page but this big male is Tuk, one of the sons from that litter. Gregg and Tuk paddled in a Canoe from Yellowknife to Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean.

Gregg states he is the best companion ever. He has paddle hundreds and hundreds of miles with Tuk. What an amazing adventureous lifestyle Gregg and Tuk have. I'll try to get a complete page up for this amazing story between Gregg and Tuk. Tuk is a truly outstanding male. He is the full sibling brother to Aspen and Cedar, the two daughters Wendy and Dale held back from the litter of Tika and Swix.

This my friends, This is an Elkhound!

Below you will find a video of Swix and Paul when they came to visit! Swix is the father to Tuk, as well as Cedar and Aspen. What an incredible Norwegian Elkhound!

Below you will find a video of three of the pups from Willow and Sage. Both of these sisters were bred to Karu at the same time, I have e of them out in the mountains with 3 mature Elkhounds! These 3 pups are all Grandpups of Tika.

Below you will find a video of Tika I did quite a few years ago. She was in her prime at that time. Her half sisters Tekla and Tuva are in it and some of our other great dogs. Enjoy!

Tika is in this litter
This is the litter Tika and Kai were in. This is the 4th and final litter of Tora and Bram. Tora had successfully raised an outstanding 34 pups in those 4 litters. Remarkable Genetics!

Tika and Kai litter
I knew at the time that the quality of these pups was truly something incredible. I have been gifted in life to have had some of the very best Norwegian Elkhounds in the world and my time with these dogs from this litter years ago has been a blessing.
Bram Norwegian Elkhound

Bram is the spectacular father of Tika. He is a full instinct working Norwegian Elkhound and has some of the very elite of the Norway dogs in his background.

Mia - Great Grandmother to Rita
Rita's Great Grandmother Mia is shown here many years ago. This is the litter Grandmother Tora was from, you can see her in the image. Tora was the mother of Kai. You can see the prolific nature of this genetic, there are ten in that litter.
Remote Terrain Norwegian Elkhounds

This particular genetic of Tika I have spent decades hiking remote terrain with. In my opinion this is the very best remote terrain dog in the world, and the very best genetic for this work. I have hiked thousands of miles with generations of adult Elkhounds and hiked with hundreds of pups in remote regions of this genetic.

Nika - Daughter of Tika and Swix
This stunning beauty above is Nika, daughter of Tika and Swix. As you can easily see the dark old world lines of Swix and Tika are a phenomenal match. Ken provides a wonderful home for Nika up in the Northern BC area. We are very greatful for the awesome lifestyle she has.

Swix is out of the very best  of the bear hunt lines in Sweden. A tremendous Norwegian Elkhound Male.

Swix Norwegian Elkhound Male from Sweden
This is the handsome Swix with his great handler Paul from Sweden. Swix was able to come for a bear hunt here with his brothers and was very successful and after come down to visit us. We were fortunate at that time to do a collection on him. This is what enabled us to have semen to use when Tika cycled. Aspen and Cedar are both daughters from this magnificent male!

Swix and Kai Sister to Tika

This is Swix hanging out with Tika's sister Kai. What many don't realize is that the Swix genetic is highly prized in Sweden as one of the best hunting lineages. This lineage has never left the old country. We are very proud that Paul has allowed us to fortify the Norwegian Elkhound genetics and use Swix to help us preserve our old lines. What an incredible thing he has done for the Norwegian Elkhound Industry, Thank You Paul!
