Karu Male Norwegian Elkhound
This is Karu, Norwegian Elkhound Stud Dog at Kamia Kennels.
Karu was born in Finland and was imported as an outcross sire to our ancient lineage Norwegian Elkhounds we raise.
This is the first time this genetic has left the old country and it's an incredible lineage of the very best hunting Champions and Show Champion Norwegian Elkhounds.

Here is the famous Ritttu shown on the right, she is a Triple Champion, Moose, Bear and Show in Finland.
Beside her is the Grandfather of Karu, also Champion Norwegian Elkhound both in Hunting and in Show. Exceptional Norwegian Elkhounds and we are so proud to have this prestigeous and accomplished genetic lineage now at work in our kennel.
The contributions to the Norwegian Elkhound breed in North America is profound from these breeders. Kari was the breeder of Karu in Finland and it's with great pride we Thank Kari for this magnificent stud dog Karu.
Karu

Few dogs will make such an impact on the breed as Karu. Since the very early days when the importations came, the early dogs were excellent quality but the level of dogs that were released to come to North America for many decades now are not in the league of Karu.
This is a far superior bloodline, bred exclusively for the purpose of excellence in hunting and quality and it has proven over generations of great dogs that this particular genetic is outstanding.
Our old world hunting linages and other imports work extremely well with this particular line as it's such an outcross. So far unrelated it's almost like another breed, so long since the ancestors of our dogs been matched with those of Karu.
Kamu - Father of Karu - Champion Moose Hunter Finland
This is the incredible father of Karu, Finnish hunting Champion Kamu.
An excellent working Norwegian Elkhound Kamu brought forth the best in the mating with Rittu.
We all know that when you have centuries of dedication for preservation and retention of abilities in the dogs, breeders end up with great dogs like Kamu.
The combination of pairing Kamu with Rittu was a monumentally great choice. Kamu's father was also a double Finnish Champion, he was shown above with Rittu. This deep genetic quality goes back generation after generation.

Look
at Fenn and then at Kamu, is that some serious stamping going on
with these incredible genetics.
Willow is one of 4th Generation females she is over with our co-breeders Wendy and Dale and Fenn is a result of that mating with Karu.
Fenn recently stood his ground with a charging bear, keeping his handler safe and he is a fearless rascal.
Our goal as a preservation breeder is to breed exactly dogs like Fenn.

Karu
has incredible handler focus
One of the atributes and qualities that Kari the breeder in Finland knew we wanted was an incredible handler focus. Our lineages are the very best in the world for this aspect so we are so pleased that he was able to get us the absolute best in that regard considering the hunt drives of the Finnish bloodlines.
You will be able to see such amazing focus on the handler in my videos of Karu that it's crazy really. Only a few dogs can rival Karu, those being of course Kamia Kennels foundation dogs. Takoda, MANE, Aila and others.

*Kaleva - Daughter of Karu and the beautiful Silver Nova*
The
stunning daughter of Karu and Silver Nova is shown to the left.
Kaleva is an incredible Norwegian Elkhound female and she has
recently been bred to Pretty Boy Leif.
This is a perfect representation of the very best of the North American breeding lineages and her mother Silver Nova was a daughter of the famous Armani and Champion Silver Princess.
It's easy to see that Karu and Silver Nova can create exceptional Norwegian Elkhounds and we are so pleased to showcase the Pretty Boy Leif pups that Kaleva has raised.
Karu was brought in to bring new blood into the lineages of North America and Silver Nova was brought in as an import by Kamia Kennels for the exact same reason.
This is the result of that concentrated effort and the pups are living proof that the very best is yet to come!

I have
spent decades raising the very best Elkhounds I could preserving
ancient lineage dogs for future generations to enjoy.
For me to see these incredible pups as a result of all this work is so rewarding.

If all a breeder ever did in life was raise pups like this one time it would be a major accomplishment, but litter after litter has came and will continue to come from our preservation program and our outstanding females and other studs we have. What a great thing for Norwegian Elkhounds.
Rita - Daughter of Karu and Kai
Another
illustration of the depth and quality of our females is this
beautiful daughter of Karu and Kai, Rita.
She is the ultimate in genetic diversity, perfect conformation and style combined with full instincts intact.
Her mother Kai was one of the premier old world females we wanted to mate to Karu and this stunning daughter was selected to carry on this genetic.
Rita is fourth generation in our program and her litter she recently had with Pretty Boy Leif was outstanding.
Karu brings back that working bloodline and mating him to a working bloodline like Kai produces these intense hunting and working females.
We can then pair that back up with our ultra friendly world famous Pretty Boy Leif for incredible pups. More to come on this phenomenal female.
Griz - Granddaughter of Karu - Daughter of Rita and Pretty Boy Leif
Check out this beauty will you. Show and work all brought together in an amazing young female. So sharp and aware, her abilities are already intense.
Linda has young Griz down with her in Montana. This is a full working female with a great genetic diversity using Rita and Leif.
We are excited to continue this genetic lineage with young Griz.
Revna - An Ancient Lineage Karu and Luna Daughter
Revna, one of our very best females is a daughter of Karu and Luna. This is Elkhound preservation at it's finest. Revna is quite possibly one of the few remaining links to the old original bloodlines that started it all the Norrland dogs.
This is a Luna daughter which traces through Tekla and Takoda. This is one of the most higly prized lineages of all time, she is of course a Golden Ring Elkhound.
Revna is up at Michael and Sarah's and will be mated in the future to Pretty Boy Leif, or another outcross male yet to be determined. There are only a handful of these magnificent ancient lineage females left in the world and at present only those at Kamia Kennels are known to exist.
The
main reason Karu was sourced from pure outcross working
Norwegian Elkhounds in Finland was this bloodline of Revna.
This is one of the greatest working bloodlines in North America, easily one of the oldest known lines in the world and Karu was selected to bring forth females like Revna.
Revna's mother unfortunately was lost on the next litter before she was able to mate with Karu again but we had already preserved that lineage by holding this old world female back.
You can look all over the world at every female Elkhound you wished to, you could not find a better female than Revna.
Revna has sisters as good, aunts as good, but better, no.
We are proud to say Karu was instrumental in preserving a lineage that has been founding great Elkhound lines for centuries.
Varja - Norwegian Elkhound Hunting Lineage Daughter of Karu
Karu was also brought in to preserve the very unique and rare bloodline of the famous Ravenstone Dogs. Kamia Kennels is one of the few breeders that carries that bloodline. This daughter of Tekla and Karu carry that forward. She is an incredible female.
Varja's mother was in my opinion the very best Norwegian Elkhound female in the world. We unfortunately lost Tekla in an accident but we are blessed to have tons of her offspring in our program and Varja is the last daughter that was retained.
Varja of course as you may already know was named after her ancestor, the famous Norwegian Hunting female from Norway, first International Champion "Varja".
There are multiple 50 year breeders in the background of this Karu and Tekla daughter. Varja is up with Michael and Sarah and will be mated in the future to Leif or other.
